Scientific documentation and current level of research on HBOT

HBOT is a conventional medical method of treatment which is scientifically proven in contrast to other oxygen and ozone treatments. There are a lot of series of randomized, controlled and prospective studies-evidence class I + II-on individual indications. HBOT has already been positively graded by the internationally recognized “Cochrane Reviews” regarding some of these indications (i.e. hearing loss with and without Tinnitus, chronic wounds). HBOT has therefore also been extensively tested by conventional medicine.

Current Studies, Reports and Publications on Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Ambulant HBOT-treatment of diabetic foot syndrome

2010: 'HODFU-Study' by Hammerlund et. al from Sweden on ambulant treatment of diabetic foot syndrome with HBOT. This highly qualitative study proves the benefit of HBOT regarding ambulant treatment of diabetic foot syndrome.

HBOT regarding Hearing Disorders

2010: The 'European Manual of Medicine Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery' of the UEMS (Union Européenne de Médicins Spécialistes) documents the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on hearing disorders. On the other hand, these experts categorize treatment with normobarically (not under suppression) inhaled oxygen as 'obsolete'.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy HBOT regarding Retinitis Pigmentosa: An opportunity

2010: Report by Dr. Hellmuth Sümmerer on the treatment of a patient who had almost gone blind.

2008: Detailed 1b-study: 'Slowing the degenerative process, long lasting effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in retinitis pigmentosa' by Vingolo, Rocco, Grenga, Salvatore and Pelaia (Graefes Arch Clin Exp Ophtalmol, 2008; 246: 93-98.) Download Study (PDF, English)
