Acoustic Trauma

DruckenE-Mail

One acoustic shock too much and suddenly many decibels too much

An exploding tyre, the full loudness of music at a concert, New Year’s Eve celebrations may affect the ear just as a sudden bang or even an explosion at the workplace. The consequence is an acute noise or acoustic trauma which may lead to hearing disorders and noise in the ear.

Your ear has not recovered by itself? Then immediately consult an ENT specialist!

Often, stressed ears recover by themselves. But should have complaints even on the next day, we highly recommend you to go to the ENT doctor. The consequences of an acoustic trauma such as acute hearing loss, over-sensitivity to noise and ear noise should not be played down.

Regeneration of the sensory cells by oxygen: Additional treatment options of acoustic trauma with hyperbaric oxygen therapy

Where medication favouring the blood flow, infusions and cortisone are of no help, HBOT offers an extra and equal chance for recovery. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is an internationally acknowledged therapy for acoustic traumas. Garrisons and army hospitals have pressure chambers to provide effective treatment for acoustic traumas.
The hyperbaric oxygen therapy opens up additional treatment options for acoustic trauma through its different therapeutic approach: the high oxygen content in the body and the sensory cells of the inner ear enhances to a high degree the level of regeneration from an acoustic trauma. Medication and infusions have an effect via vascular dilation / stimulation of blood circulation. HBOT works through the increasingly dissolved oxygen in the blood. In the culture fluid of the sensory cells the oxygen content increases by 4 - to 6-fold and intensively supplies the entire inner ear and therefore areas which are affected by lack of supply.

Strong against acoustic trauma: HBOT plus cortisone plus infusion

The ears are a sensitive sensory organ. In order to avoid permanent damage due to acoustic trauma, it may be helpful to combine medication, infusions and HBOT. At the Pressure Chamber Centre of Freiburg patients with acoustic trauma are able to conduct an infusion therapy. The Pressure Chamber Centre of Freiburg not only offers its patients ambulant care with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Especially for patients with severe hearing disorders such as acoustic trauma or noise trauma they receive extensive and interdisciplinary care through the services of the HBO2-day clinic of the Centre for Hyperbaric Medicine.
