Like a wad of cotton wool in the ear: If the ear gets almost deaf

Sudden deafness means the sudden, complete or partial reduction of hearing, mostly in one ear. Often, sudden deafness is accompanied by noise in the ear, a so-called tinnitus. Sudden deafness can be expressed by an acute and complete loss of hearing or a constant feeling of pressure on the ear due to which sound can merely be perceived like through a wad of cotton wool. Sudden deafness is often triggered by stress and the feeling of too much strain.

In case of permanent complaints after hearing loss: Immediately consult an ENT specialist

Do not delay the administration of suitable treatment and make sure that you visit a specialist ENT doctor within the first few days subsequent to the onset of the symptoms of acute hearing loss.

Another chance for the treatment of acute hearing loss: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

If medication which is supposed to boost the blood flow – possibly infusions supported by cortisone – does not help, HBOT offers an additional chance of recovery that is of the same value.

Regeneration of the sensory cells by oxygen

The high oxygen level in the body and in the sensory cells of the inner ear provides a considerable degree of support to the regeneration. The hyperbaric oxygen therapy opens up additional treatment options for hearing loss through its different therapeutic approach: the high oxygen content in the body and the sensory cells of the inner ear enhances to a high degree the level of regeneration from an acoustic trauma. Medication and infusions have an effect via vascular dilation / stimulation of blood circulation. HBOT works through the increasingly dissolved oxygen in the blood. In the culture fluid of the sensory cells the oxygen content increases by 4 - to 6-fold and intensively supplies the entire inner ear and therefore areas which are affected by lack of supply.

Strong against hearing loss: HBOT plus cortisone plus infusion

Ears are a sensitive sensory organ. In order to avoid permanent damage it is helpful to combine medications and infusions with HBOT. At the Pressure Chamber Centre of Freiburg patients with hearing loss are able to conduct an infusion therapy.
