Chronic Lyme disease

Chronic borreliosis: a disease with various symptoms and complaints

Permanent fatigue and lassitude, attacks of vertigo, unspecific pain (fybromyalgia), joint swellings, inability to walk and arthrosis are only some of the many indications to chronic borreliosis, also called lyme arthritis. There are differing types and kinds of aches and pains in chronic Lyme disease. The pains often occur although it is not possible to find any evidence of them under clinical conditions. This disease can clearly be proven by means of examinations of the blood that may result in a considerable borreliosis titre. Antibiosis treatments are the common treatments paid by the health insurance companies.

Experimental Treatment of Chronic Lyme Arthritis with Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO): Another Chance

We know that in many cases, HBOT leads to a recovery in cases of chronic Lyme disease. Its mechanism of action is not yet sufficiently clear, however, which means that the therapy is only applied in exceptional cases. We assume that the high oxygen partial pressure in the body will destroy the infectious germ or at least decimates it even in places unreached by antibiotics. For this reason, we offer patients to try HBOT treatment. HBOT is a low-side effect therapy that can still be tried as another chance and alternative after several series of unsuccessful antibiotics therapies.

Preparation of Studies on Chronic Borreliosis

Studies in this area are currently being prepared. The development of a study design causes considerable difficulties, however.

Our opinion:

The normal therapies should first of all be exhausted, with antibiotic treatments possibly being repeated. After that, HBOT is a therapy that may improve the quality of life if all other treatments have proven unsuccessful.
